A Glimpse at the 4th English Language Conference of UPSI - Day 1

Greetings to all of you!

As we know that today is the commencement of the much awaited English conference. Actually, lots of booths were not ready because most of us thought that since the conference will commence at 9.00 am, it will be best that we prepare ourselves for the exhibition from 8..00 am or something. However, most of us were taken aback as we supposed to be ready by 8.00am because the participants for the conference were already there before 9.00 am. And when they had registered themselves, they walked around. So, they could not actually see much of the things displayed because lots of booths were not ready by then.

Well, by 9.00am, most of the booths were ready for exhibition and we were walking around to each other's booths. These are the pictures :

Not long after I had taken all those pictures, Professor Rod Ellis, a keynote speaker for the conference, came to visit the exhibition together with our Vice Chancellor, our Dean, the Deputy Dean, and our Head of Department. Professor Rod Ellis is currently the Deputy Head, Department of Applies Language Studies and Linguistics, Faculty of Arts in University of Auckland, New Zealand. His visit to our exhibition came with a surprise. However, we were very happy to see him there as he is a very warm and soft spoken person. Further, we were very happy to have him visited our exhibition. Thanks Professor for your kind and gentle visit.

Soon after Professor Rod Ellis had entered the conference hall, it marked the time for the opening ceremony. So, all students were called to be in the conference room for the opening ceremony. Only one person from each group was allowed to stay in their respective booths. I am sorry for I could not disclose much information about the opening ceremony nor share some pictures of the opening ceremony because I was not there at that time.

However, I managed to enter the conference room when Prof Rod Ellis was giving the keynote address. Lots of our friends came out from the conference room before his address ended. You should be able to understand why. I loved his address though. So, I was there until his address ended.

After his address, the conference took a break for lunch. Therefore, before the presentation of papers started, the lecturers who were the conference participants came and visited our exhibition. We were in dire need for their presence because each of the booths was given an evaluation form to be filled by visitors. We welcomed them with the utmost treatments we could give. Some of us even waited there for the lecturers to finish evaluating one booth before asking him or her to proceed to our booths. The situation there was very chaotic I would say.

Not forgetting the seniors, they came to give us their supports as they were needed in the evaluation too. Not all the seniors were friendly though. At 2.30pm, we were left alone to rot at the exhibition area as all the participants of the conference had started the papers presentations sessions.

We closed our booths at 5.00pm. Tomorrow will be another session for exhibition. These are all for today.

Yours truly,
